What we are doing

This is a project about real people expressed in the language real people use to tell their own stories. It is about the challenges, obstacles and opportunities that households and communities across Scotland face every day of the year as they struggle to access services and benefits, and to feed, clothe and heat their families. The project aims to illuminate the lives of people of all ages, genders and cultural and ethnic backgrounds who are united by their shared or comparable experiences of poverty and disadvantage. By giving people the opportunity to make their voices heard, we hope to contribute to a more informed, less judgmental, media and political debate about the nature and causes of economic inequality and to policy approaches informed more by the complexity of people’s real-world needs than calculations about image or short-term electoral advantage.
